Wisdom Teeth

The final teeth that erupt into the mouth are frequently your wisdom teeth or third molars. The issue is that individuals' wisdom teeth could not have adequate room, leading to them becoming impacted. If wisdom teeth are not removed because there is not enough space for them to erupt, various problems may arise over time. To avoid endangering your oral and dental health, River Rock Dental advises having your wisdom teeth removed.

Procedure for Removing Wisdom Teeth

Your wisdom teeth's position and developmental stage will affect how easily your dentist or oral surgeon can remove them. You can get a better understanding of what to expect about your pre-extraction evaluation from your oral health care professional. After a wisdom tooth has fully emerged through the gum, it can be removed just like any other tooth. However, to remove a wisdom tooth implanted in the jawbone and behind the gums, a gum incision must be made, followed by removing the boney tissue covering the tooth.

What Occurs During Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

A local anesthetic, similar to the one used to numb a tooth before having a cavity filled, will be administered to numb the teeth and the surrounding tissue before your wisdom teeth are removed. You and your dentist or oral surgeon may decide that a sedative is necessary for addition to the local anesthetic to numb the pain and reduce anxiety. Nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, oral sedatives like Valium, and intravenous sedatives are examples of sedatives that may be chosen.
