Sedation

Have you skipped out on seeing the dentist for years because you’re nervous about pain, drilling, or just general discomfort? Dental anxiety is something many patients suffer from and missed cleanings can lead to the need for more extensive and invasive work down the road.

At River Rock Dental, we want you to feel comfortable and at ease while visiting us and we want to make sure your teeth are well taken care of. That’s why we offer an array of relaxing sedation options for patients, ranging from gentle laughing gas to IV sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

Often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is safe for patients of all ages with mild dental anxiety. Administered through a mask over the nose, it causes calm and relaxed feelings while leaving patients fully conscious throughout their procedure. The effects are easily reversed once the treatment is over. Nitrous oxide increases your pain threshold, making treatments more comfortable.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is a great option for patients suffering from severe dental anxiety or those having extensive dental work done. This method allows you to completely relax while still being able to communicate with your doctor if needed. With IV sedation, you may feel as though you’re sleeping, but you are actually only experiencing an extremely deep sense of relaxation.

General Anesthesia

While most procedures don’t require it, some are complex enough that the patient will need general anesthesia. If you’re having wisdom teeth removed or having dental implants placed, general anesthesia may be the best sedation method for you.

General anesthesia in dentistry is typically less invasive than with other types of surgeries, but it will still leave you unconscious and unable to feel pain for the duration of your surgery. Our team of family dentists has undergone specialized training to administer general anesthesia, so you can rest easy that your sedation and dental procedure will go smoothly.

Dental Vibe

Many patients report that most of the discomfort they feel when having dental procedures done is the initial numbing shot. The revolutionary DentalVibe Injection Comfort System allows our team to administer numbing injections with little to no discomfort. The system emits high-frequency vibrations that interrupt the pain signals that are sent to your brain, blocking the pain from even registering.

While most patients don’t feel much discomfort or after effects from their sedation, you might feel somewhat wobbly or off-balance directly after your treatment as the medication wears off. We’ll send you home with simple, helpful directions for the rest of your day. We highly recommend that you plan to have someone drive you to and from your appointment if you will be undergoing sedation.
